Steering box replacement.?

1. Antonyred Says: I have a 2000 Silverado. I just had it in for an estimate because the front end was acting funny. The steering box needs to be replaced but the quote was for 535.00 and I'm broke. My cousin who lives out of state said I could do it on my own. What is the difficulty level of a job like this? I'm very handy, but know little about working on vehicles. Any thoughts?
2. wildmanny2 Says: Loosen up the lock nut holding the adjustment screw then tighten the screw until it bottoms out. Then back it off slightly. It's located on the top of the steering box.Or find a used box here:

Never having done this before,it will be tough to change and I doubt that it's the problem anyway.More likely there is a worn tie rod end or center link.
3. Dennis Says: Before you replace it, look into adjusting it. Simple job, if you know how. Could save you $500.
