Can my bf buy me a car and have it in my name?

If he pays for the vehicle, he should title the vehicle in his name (I'm assuming he's paying for it in full, if he's just "making the payment", then he's not really paying off anything). The insurance will be in his name as well, with you as a driver on the policy. You can't take out a policy on a vehicle that isn't in your name.

If a split occurs, you need to make sure it's as clean as possible. So, being titled in his name, he would simply take the car back, or sell it to you and transfer the title... and drop you from his insurance.

Again, keep it as clean as possible. When you get married, then you can worry about joint ownership.
