1. jaymax173 Says: My 1998 Mercury Sable with the all aluminum 24 valve motor specifies the use of Dexcool as well as the 3.0 iron block push-rod motor in the glove-compartment hand-book. *Green antifreeze is loaded with silicates which cavitates and causes wear inside water-pump and aluminum cooling systems. It will also cause bigger damage to a diesel engine!

I also own a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix with the "problem child" 3800 motor. It has 76,000 on the odometer and I'm still waiting for trouble! The Pontiac and DOHC Ford cooling systems are clean as a whistle. My 98 Chevrolet S-10 also has Dexcool and their is no crap in its cooling system either.

GM still specifies Dexcool in all their cooling systems. Do you suppose the person above is authorized to tell everyone to "dump their Dexcool" because he created his own problems?

**If people keep their coolant recovery tanks filled correctly to keep air out of the system and change the special coolant recovery radiator pressure cap ocassionally they'll nave no issues with Dexcool.

Type in: Causes: Dexcool problems. Anyone and everyone who continues to whine about Dexcool might learn something.
2. Country Boy Says: 1996.
3. Luke Says: If you own a GM product with the DexCool in it, change it over and back to anything other than DexCool. The stuff will cause problems unless you change it every year. Sitting in the heater core during warm weather times and not circulation through it will make it turn to a "muddy substance" plugging the core up and will not let water/coolant be circulated for the heater to operate.
I had an '01 Blazer will a 4.3L and had to have heater core blown out twice and core changed twice because of that crap. Changed it over to Prestone and never had anymore problems!
