Key cutting microchipped keys?? WTF DUDE!!!!!?

1. Anakin Says: I just turned 17 and my parents' old car, a Toyota Camry Ateva 2004, is being given to me. My parents only have one key, and it's microchipped. So i would have get a copy of this key from a Toyota dealer. I haven't been to the dealer to ask about the price but i heard from my friends and parents it was around $300 Australian dollars. Also, would I have show ownership of the car before I get the key cut? And is there a cheaper alternative?

3. Karle Says: yes and no........go to any hardware store that cuts keys and have them cut u one that does not have a chip in it......will work for doors abut will not crank car........

also get price from dealer.....some models are cheaper than others.........

other than that u can buy chipped blanks on ebay...etc.....then have them cut at ur local hardware store....then u will have to follow directions in ur owners manual to program the key.....

** don't forget that after u have a spare to use it at least once every 90 days....i generally suggest once a month at min......cas if u don't it will lose it's programming so won't work when u need it.....

Crys Says: A unchipped key will only unlock the doors but it will not start the car, also if it has an alarm the unchipped key will set the alarm off until you use the key less entry to unlock the doors. I just had to buy a replacement chipped key for my 08 Mazda and it cost me $50 for the key and $50 to have it programmed at the dealership that's US dollars. I was told that the dealer had to program it because it took a computer to program it. Also that if I lost my only key I would have to have it towed to the closest dealership to have them open the doors, then I would have to pay towing cost.

5. Alan Says: The price in your area is unknown to me. You will not have to prove ownership as they will need the vehicle to program the key. A friend in the business is always handy.
