1. Trees Says: Im looking for a 4.0 liter that would be the smoothest ride on highway. (i know its contradictory to get a jeep for highway driving)
2. Ashlee Says: 97' to 2006 TJ's. The reason for this is that in 1997 the Wrangler got a coil spring suspension which is very nice to drive on the road. You could actually look for anything from 97+ but in 2006 the 4.0L was discontinued and it switched to the 3.7L motor.

On a side note, there is nothing wrong with the 4.0L. The new V6 motor produces more HP and torque along with better fuel economy. Yes it might have to rev a bit higher to get that power but that is the only downside to the V6....so I wouldn't discount it.
3. Joe Z Says: 97-2000 good years
4. luis r Says: in comparison to other vehicles, no jeep will be a smooth ride due to its solid axles, stiff suspension, and unsprung weight. definitely get a TJ though, unless you like leaf springs....and square headlights (nothing against YJs).

the new V6s are more suited for highway use than the I6s, but i think the JKs have too much plastic on them.

the best year TJ to get would be a 97-02, for some reason, out of all the year models, these years have the most compatible aftermarket add-ons (bolt patterns, dimensions...less modification required). the rubicon is the best, but any of the other ones (sport, sahara, or x) can be modified to be as good or better.

one thing you should look at, if you want a hardtop, buy one with a hardtop. hardtops can get expensive and they do make the ride a little quieter.

also, if you want a little more room, get the unlimited (longer wheelbase)...or the four-door.
