What type of Transmission fluid should i use 4 93 honda civic?

1. killa760 Says: ok so it says to use dexron II atf...does it matter if i use dexron III, because i have some of that and i dont want to buy more?
2. honda guy Says: Dextron III is 'backwards compatible" with "Dextron II". Dextron III came out after the car and the owner's manual were made. Its okay to use Dextron III if you have it.

However, Honda recommends that Dextron only be used 'for emergencies' and it is not intended to be a full replacement fluid. if you are just topping off the fluid, no problem. if you're changing the transmission fluid then you should stick to the factory original Hondamatic fluid. the reason is that the Honda fluid has seal conditioners in it that keep the seals pliable. Dexton doesn't have the same conditioners (it uses other chemical formulations) and that can result in leaks or pressure loss over time.
