2.7L engine in a 2002 Dodge Inteprid is locked up? What could be the cause?

1. RED Says: The engine on a 2002 Dodge Inteprid is locked up so tight that a 20 inch breaker bar cannot rotate the engine in either direction with the spark plugs removed. I have removed the oil pan and inspected all main and rod bearings except the front two rods and front main bearing (I cannot access the bolts on these components to remove the cap). All of the bearings I have inspected look good with only normal wear (engine has 127,000 miles on it). So I do not believe that I have a spun bearing based on the face that I have inspected 75% of the bearings wiith no signs of problems. So my question is what besides a crankshaft or crankshaft bearing failure could cause an engine to lock up in both directions? Is there a possible failure in the torque converter that could cause this problem? Also of note is that the timing chain is fully engaged in its drive sprocket and appears to be tight.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
2. dodge man Says: the pistons will seize up in them or they,ll lock up from over heating, try this unbolt the torque converter and see if the engine turns over then,it could have spun a cam bearing also and that would cause it to lock up from lack of oil pressure, the 2.7 was basically dodges worse engine they ever built, don't sink any money in to this car though its not worth it,good luck
3. Michelle Obama's Hair Gel Says: junk the car and buy a new one. your oil pump failed and the car is toast.
4. dick car guy Says: my guess is the oil pump failed and something in the top end locked up,metal welds together when this happens, there is no magic fix here, you need a new engine.
5. Kenny Says: An investigation is useless. You need a new motor. Go to www.car-part.com find a used one in your area.
6. Doug W Says: The 2.7L dodge is known for poor oil circulation problems. Just because you looked at 75% of the bearings means nothing. It only takes one and the rest will look fine. Just junk it and replace the engine. Then I would sell it or junk the car if it is in bad condition.
7. wids Says: Ask any used car dealer. They stay away from the 2.7L. In addition to all of the problems stated above they are bad with leaking head gaskets.
8. Rick Says: Sounds like the pistons seized in their bores from lack of oil.
