Ford focus se 2000 problem?

Says: My 2000 ford focus se is running bad..lost power on highway and over revs, wont switch gears....?Was driving home on highway, suddenly over reved ..rpms raced up to 5...I had pedal to the floor and wouldnt accelerate. When it is almost stalling (at a stop light) I hear a tinny rattling sound underneath, like maybe from the exhaust.2. Says: The first few sound like the alternator and the second part would be the transmission. That's a Ford for ya. Tag: Ford focus se 2000 problem?
