1. Sampada K Says: My wife just got her oil changed a week ago. Since this has happened her car has developed a knock and a pretty moderate vibration. Any ideas?
2. Robert M Says: You have done something wrong. READ your manual. You must use only a genuine German filter and an oil that is rated for specification 502/505. You cannot use Wal-mart or Jiffy lube unless they PROVE to you they are using the proper oil. ALSO, be sure to use only fuel that meets "top tier" fuel formulas. You may have to have an engine de-sludge if you have NOT been doing things the right way. FOR GOD'S SAKE, READ the owner's manual 3-4 times until you understand what is happening. The engine in the A3 is VERY, VERY special. DO NOT RUIN IT from lack of knowledge!!! ABSOLUTELY NO VALVOLINE, EVER!!!!!!
3. Sampada K Says: Actually, I found out it was the ignition coils. And they had been safety recalled. Good thing I knew I hadn't done anything wrong. - The Wife
4. Cuervo Says: The knock after an oil change could be caused by low oil level, incorrect oil or low oil pressure not lubricating the engine properly. Low oil pressure could be due to having the incorrect oil filter installed or if something was damaged inside the oil filter housing, usually though this would be accompanied by a red warning light for low oil pressure.

If the vibration happens while driving I highly doubt that the vibration was caused by the oil change. Vibrations while driving are usually caused by rotating components such as unbalanced wheels or tires, also loose suspension components that cause rotating parts to be out of balance.

If the vibration is at idle then it could be the engine running rough due to low oil pressure. These engines have a system controlled by oil pressure called variable valve timing. There's mechanical parts on the camshafts called camshaft adjuster gears these are the ones that move the camshafts to control valve timing when oil pressure is applied to them. These adjuster gears can make a knocking noise if they don't have the correct oil pressure and make the car run rough because the intake and exhaust valves won't open at the right time causing an incorrect air fuel mixture which in turn causes misfires. If this is the case you will eventually get a check engine light.
