1. MACHO MIKE Says: I was just reading that U2 spy planes require chase cars to land properly...which are usually high performance cars. I guess in the early 80's they used g-body El Caminos with 396 big blocks put in them. I can't find specific info on these cars anywhere!
2. Matt Says: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ePs3WAbVkc Pontiac G8 and GTO

I'm sure they have always used high performance cars to chase them but realistically the landing speed is under 100 mph, I could chase them in my 1972 Chevy truck. The vette doesn't even spend more than a second or two under partial throttle to get up to the landing speed.

Edit: watch the videos people, the U2 is very hard to land it is meant to fly at extreme altitudes where the air is thin, at almost ground level it really has to be forced to the ground. Combined with poor visibility in the cockpit and only two wheels for landing.
3. Paul Says: OK, so it's hard to land. So I repeat my question:

WHAT can a car do to help a plane land???
4. Paul Says: REQUIRE a chase car? Makes no sense to ME. I mean, WHAT can a car do to help a plane land???

I'm interested to hear or learn why a car would be needed for this.......
5. I need direction to perfection Says: all i understood was U2.
