What is the correct procedure for recharging a cars a/c system?
(2010-05-30 09:36:50) 1. Says: I have the hose with the gauge and the refrigerant but don't have the instructions that came with it. There are some directions on the can but then it says to refer to the instructions that came with the hose kit, which I don't have.2. Says: do you know if the system is completely empty, if so why. What type of freon? If you have leaks they must be repaired. If you are going to top the system the freon attaches to the low pressure side (cold side). If the system is ok, the clutch will activate when min. pressure is achieved.3. Says: Go to a certified mechanic that can legally do the work. Wait until you over charge the system and blow out the compressor!!4. Says: first u should evacuate all old freon (you prob cant do at home safely)]Next pull system into a vacuum (you prob cant do that at home)
Add oil to the system (prob still yet cant do that one at home)
advice, take it to a pro5. Says: You can get do it yourself A/C manuals on Ebay for about $5.00 bucks that can guide you through the process. Good Luck!!!6. Says: There is a tool that you can attach to the a/c line and a can of freon and it can tell you when it is charged. But make sure you have had no issues with the system as far as leaks. The tool is about $ 60.00 or so dollars. It can be used on any car and comes with operating instructions. You can pick one up at any parts store, most carry them , but call ahead anyway to make sure.7. Says: I would agree with agree with thebax2006, but would add an additional cautionary tale.
I knew a car mechanic who lost his eye due to the refridgerant when repairing a car air conditioner.
If that can happen to an experienced mechanic, you should not make this a "do it yourself" project if you don't know what you are doing!!! Tag: What is the correct procedure for recharging a cars a/c system?
