(2010-05-30 09:53:19) 1. Says: I have a question about changing my breaks on my 2002 Ford Taurus. Its a front wheel drive but it has rear breaks. Are those emergency breaks? I just want to know if I need to buy 4 new break pads instead of 2. I know for sure that the front ones need changing2. If the fronts are worn out get them replaced quickly before you have metal-on-metal and have to pay for new rotors as well as pads.4. Says: Hi PinkladyJUnder normal driving conditions - front disc brakes last approx 45K Rear drum brakes 60K.
It is best to change all four unless the rear are at least 50%
Unless the brake pedal is pulsating from possible rotor warp or slight jerking when stopping from "hot spots" - most times - it is not necessary to have the rotors turned.
If the front pads are worn out and there is metal to metal contact then turning or replacing the rotors is necessary.
A reputable shoppe will compare each pair of brake pads, at each wheel, to determine if they have worn equal. If not there may be a problem with a caliper or slider sticking.
The brakes on all four wheels are engaged when using the foot brake.
Only the rear brakes are used for the parking brake, (and I hope you use it faithfully)? Each year thousands of people, (many of them children) are injured and killed, from roll-a-ways, because the parking brake was not set. Tag: Do I need to change front and rear brakes - 2002 For Taurus?
