(2010-05-30 10:03:50) 1. Says: I have a 2000 Mazda Protege and it takes forever to get some cool air with the A/C. I'll probably go to Pepboys or Monro muffler for their $20 A/C check but I'm sure it will cost more with refrigerant and other charges/fees they have.2. Says: Ok well if you are low in refrigerant then you have a leak. First I would recommend to get a uv dye so you can locate the leak. Then once you have located the leak you can decided if a leak sealer will work. Take in mind that a leak sealer will only work if your system can hold the refrigerant for more then two weeks. There are products out there like the Super Seal that will seal both metal and rubber leaks works really good. Then once you have added the Super Seal then you can add the refirgerant and you should be go to go.This whole process should not be any more then $50. You can buy any of this products at any auto parts stores. There is also a great web site that has a lot of helpful information about your vehicles ac system. Check the link below.3. Says: you probably have a leak somewhere as these are closed systems. A qualified repair shop would need to use a "sniffer" to locate the leak and repair it. It could be a 50.00 seal or a 400.00 condensor.4. Says: If you are sure the system is okay and you are just needing to charge it with a pound of R134A. From what you are describing the system is working but it just takes a while to get cool. That sounds like your just needing a seasonal charge. Then all you need to do is go to your local parts store, Napa, Pep Boys, Auto Zone, and purchase a can of R134A with the installation hose/gauge kits they offer. You're looking at $25 bucks. The government no longer requires a certified technician handle refrigerant as the 1984 Montreal Protocol Act did with the old refrigerants. The R143A has much less fluorocarbons in it.5. Says: It just MIGHT be normal for the system to require a little recharge after 11 years. If you get ANY cold air from it at all, this is a good sign. I would predict spending less than $80 to have your refrigerant recycled and re-vitalized.6. Says: You can get yourself an auto a/c manual and try it yourself. I've seen inexpensive ones on Ebay for around 5 dollars. Tag: About how much would it cost to get refrigerant in my car?
