I have an oil leak could that be effecting my miles per gallon?
(2010-05-30 10:29:25) 1. Says: I got a coolant leak fixed on my 97 grand prix about one month ago. When the guy fixed it he told me I had an oil leak as well. I am leaving oil spots when my car is parked for long periods. Oddly I have been getting about 80 miles less than I usually get with a full tank. I have been planning to get the oil leak fixed soon. I think the guy said it was some fuel cap or some part that costs about $40-50.When I had my oil changed at penzoil before my coolant leak was fixed they told me that a tune up would increase my millage and I thought my millage would improve with the fixed coolant leak, which was when I discovered I had an oil leak too. I think penzoil told me I had an oil leak but I may have forgotten or not heard him well enough to remember it at the time.
Typically my car gets 386 miles on a full tank and I am getting about 300 for a full tank now. It also says my oil is at 82% so it is not low. So would the leak be effecting my mpg or is this possibly something a simple tune up could fix like penzoil said? Thanks for anyone who answers.2. Says: The oil leak WILL NOT effect the gas mileage....sounds like you need a tune up.3. Says: I don't think that fixing the coolant leak should affect economy unless something was not put back properly. A tune up would probably improve depending how long it has been since the last one. try changing the plugs first.4. Says: well i prefer the late 80's grand prix you could run the timming little bit better than stock and get better preformance lol , 97 should be computer ck the o2 sensor have mechanic check it for rich lean burn if stuck on rich all time more gas less milage . have a good day good luck.5. Says: Need plugs, plug wires, proper inflation of tires, air filter, fuel filter, distributor cap, rotor etc. Tag: I have an oil leak could that be effecting my miles per gallon?
