My car got on Fire PLEASE HELP?
(2010-05-30 10:30:31) 1. Says: ok so earlier today i replaced the battery from my 94 mustang i noticed part of the ground cable ''black one'' was pealed and you could see the copper wire showing i dint pay attention to it and somehow i was coming from walmart and the car turned off on me and there was a lot of white smoke coming out of the engine i opened the hood and it was on fire and somehow one of the power steering pump pipe ripped and all the fluid started to come out it was crazy why did it happen and what can i do about it. The car turns on now but my power steering is really hard2. Says: sounds like your problem has nothing to do with the battery cable (though they can start fires). you probably just blew a power steering line and the power steering fluid was leaking on the exhaust manifold making all that smoke/possible fire. replace the power steering line, that should be the first place to start. Bare cables are often used for negative cables, so unless it looks burned or the cable itself is damaged it shouldn't start a fire.3. Says: well black wire isnt ground, depending where the wire was coming from its either a positive or negative wire not a ground... and the power steering hose ripping is just wear and tear, it happens to collant hoses to, check for cracks and any cuts or wearing on em every now and then. you will want to get some engine degreaser and spray ur motor down then hose it all of, wait for it to dry, find out which hose it is and replace it, then when its replaced top of the power steering fluid4. Says: You will need to clean all the fluid out of the engine area as it is a fire risk. then replace the line that busted and refill the power searing tank . That should get you steering back like it was. if you drive it like it is it will damage the power steering further. The power steering pump is the a pressurized system that aids in steering the car.5. Says: I wish I could help you. Maybe a short started the fire when the power steering hose blew up. Did you install the battery right ? You will need to replace the hose(s) and check if anything else burned out. Like wires and such.6. Says: Red is positive / black is ground. The first guy that answered has no clue.If the hose blew, it sprayed oil on the hot exhaust system, and started to smoke. Tag: My car got on Fire PLEASE HELP?
